How much did the Louisiana Purchase cost?
Whenever I see huge sums of money — like some coach gets $30 million after getting fired — I wish they'd throw just a little bit of that money my way. At that level, you won't even notice if a few hundred grand goes missing.
Of course, one of the biggest cash deals in American history went down back in 1803, when Thomas Jefferson and his crew completed a deal for the territory of Louisiana, along with the rights to barter or conquest pretty much all of the middle of what is today's United States.
One would imagine that large of an investment would cost a pretty penny — maybe even enough to throw me some of the spare change — but then again, we're talking 1803 dollars here.
