I think people tend to like Cookie Monster because we can all relate to him. Cookies are awesome! It totally makes sense why he goes so nuts for them.
The beloved and founding Sesame Street character traces his roots to pre-Sesame days, first developed by Jim Henson for unaired commercials in 1966 where three monsters all go crazy for three different snacks.
But it was during production for the first season of Sesame Street that cookies came into play — according to Frank Oz, during one routine the monster was on a game show and "given the choice of $10,000 cash, a new car, a trip to Hawaii, or a cookie."
Once he took the cookie, the rest was history. Besides one thing: No one ever stopped to ask this sugar-loving monster (and honestly, anything-loving, including random objects) what his name was. Do you know it?
