There was a time, not all that long ago, when movie ratings simply went from G (great for anyone) to PG (hey parents, heads up but totally fine) and then straight to R (you might be killed by watching it).
As someone who definitely saw many, many movies far too young that should have been rated PG-13, I can attest that something was missing.
Far too many movies, for a pretty darn long time, were missing that rating between OK for kids and OK for some kids. The amount of trauma inflicted on kids — and the backlash from parents for certain films — finally led to the Goldilocks of movie ratings: PG-13.
What was the first movie to carry this rating from the MPAA?
