There are few things better than scrolling through TV channels late on a summer's night, only to find an obscure, nearly forgotten, or straight-up old sci-fi movie airing in the wee hours of the night.

Movies like 1960's The Time Machine, Beneath the Planet of the Apes from 1970, or 1984's Ice Pirates are best viewed when you have literally nothing else to do and nowhere else to be.

Sci-fi at the cinema has seen booms and busts; it's been taken seriously and it's been considered a children's genre; but most of all science fiction has given us the opportunity to imagine and explore, all while munching on a gallon of popcorn.
