What were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles renamed in the UK?
While brilliant, I have to say that the name Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is about as lazy as it can get. I can imagine the creators sitting there thinking, “What should we call this comic/cartoon about a bunch of teenage mutant ninja turtles? Wait a second…”
On the other hand, the title tells a kid everything they need to get invested. Teenagers? Cool. Mutants? Now we’re talking. Ninjas? I’m in! Turtles…well, they had to win us over on that one.
As it turns out, these pizza-eating goofballs single-handedly made an entire animal cool. I’m sure I’m not the only one who begged their parents to buy a pet turtle with the intention of naming them Raphael. While I was mad at the time to not get one, it was probably for the best since I planned on dumping whatever green substance I could find on it in the hopes it would mutate.
That iconic name wasn’t allowed in the UK, however, and had to be changed to something else. What was it?
